About Us
A genuine character of the Kimberley, Mike Windle, has lived in Broome for 40 years. Affectionately known as ‘Swindle’, his restuarant on Dampier Terrace in Chinatown was a popular hangout in the 1980’s and was frequented by Lord Alistair McAlpine with whom Mike developed a freindship.
With a nickname like Swindle it is no surprise that Mike is a licenced bookmaker! He can be found taking bets track side during the Broome race season and has 40 Broome Cup meetings under his belt. Mike has sat on the Broome Turf Club Committee for 24 years.
His other Broome highlights include a stint as general manager at Divers Tavern and a total of 20 years as the general manager of the iconic Roebuck Bay Hotel – The Roey.
Mike’s knowledge of Broome, its culture and history is unique and his stories often hilarious. In short, he is your ideal guide to Broome!
